About Us

Founded in 2012, SP Capital Management (SPCM) is the private investment vehicle of the Piazza Family and their partners. Traditionally focused on Ukraine, Georgia and other emerging markets, SPCM’s first major investment was in its wholly owned Kyiv-based investment advisory firm SP Advisors (SPA), which grew into a niche player in the region advising several key clients on investments in the region including the Canadian Government’s Canada-Ukraine Trade and Investment Support Program – CUTIS, the US-Ukrainian energy company Energy Resources of Ukraine (ERU), and multiple western investment institutions and family offices. Additionally, SPA has built a successful track record in helping regional companies attract financing from Western instructions. Some of the group’s key clients have included, Silknet, Georgia’s largest internet and Telcom provider, TBC Bank, the largest bank in the Republic of Georgia, Obolon one of Ukraine’s leading breweries, Galnaftogaz one of Ukraine’s largest fuel retailers, Astarta Ukraine’s largest sugar producer and UkrlandFarming Ukraine’s largest farming company.

In 2015, SPCM switched its focus away from advisory work to focus more on the group’s own direct investments. This included several debt and equity investments in agriculture, consumer retail, food services, insurance, IT development, outdoor recreation and shipping, along with distressed public debt investments in Ukraine and Georgia. The particular success of SPCM’s destressed debt portfolio along with the boom in Ukrainian corporate debt in 2017-19 allowed the company to massively expand its operations. The company also launched its own merchant banking services, providing debt and trade finance instruments to smaller underserviced Ukrainian and Georgian corporates. As the group’s assets grew SPCM also launched US-based SP Management in 2018, to support its portfolio companies and clients with business administration, bookkeeping and legal services.

In 2020 SPCM partners made their first bricks and mortar investment in the US with the purchase of Sleeping Giant Ski Area in Cody Wyoming.
